NYC Planning Department launches ZoLa

Like its ‘longstanding’ The Automated City Register Information System (ACRIS), NYC continues to create efficiency for land use and property information disclosure in the form of the newly launched ZoLa (the Zoning and Land Use Application). Delivered as a partnership between the departments of City Planning and Information Technology and Telecommunications, Zola serves up, in part, the city’s DoITT GIS Data in conjunction with what looks like the ACRIS database within a user interface that is clear, quick and attractive. This is a good progression for the relatively casual user who is interested in a particular issue, geography within the city or individual property. For GIS students and professionals, its a nice check on workflow, and is a definite improvement over cobbling together ACRIS and DoITT GIS data across different softwares and portals.
